Overview
The company GMC was discontinued in 2010. They were one of the best in producing powerful SUVs and Military trucks such as Hummer H2 and H1. While many companies have revealed electric vehicles, it is surprising to see a 100 years old, GMC joining the revolution with an all-electric truck, HUMMER EV that reportedly have 350+ miles of range. This truck rivals Rivian, Bollinger and Tesla in every aspect such as the range, power, etc... It is the most powerful electric SUV as of now with a whopping 1,000 hp which is more powerful than any fuel-powered truck. The company did announce that the truck will enter production by late 2021. Powertrain and Performance
The truck is powered by three electric motors, two at the back and one at the front that makes 1,000 hp and 11,500 lb/ft of torque which is some humongous numbers for a truck but when it comes to practicality, the torque is converted and adjusted accordingly to the gear ratios and end up producing 1,000 lb/ft of torque on roads and this phenomenon is called the Torque-multiplying effect.
The truck features an e Four-wheel drive (e4WD) as standard. As every electric vehicle comes with a load of features, the Hummer EV also does. When it comes to off-road, the Hummer EV will surely dominate. One of the best features that no truck has is a mode called the Crab-mode. This mode does help immensely for those tight turns by turning every wheel independently in the same or opposite directions, enabling the truck to move diagonally like crabs do.
The off-road drivability of this truck is supported by the special Air suspension system. If the truck is stuck, a mode called "Extraction mode" raises the truck up to 6-inches that results in a ground clearance of 16-inches and let us escape from the obstacle. There is also "Launch mode" which the company calls it the "Watts to freedom" when engaged, the suspension lowers the truck for about 2-inches from the standard ride height (10.3 inches) and puts all three motors into work. Hence, making the truck capable of doing 0-60 Mph in just 3 seconds leaving a Ford F250 in dust which takes almost 7.5 seconds for 0-60 Mph.
It has got 35-inch tyres but it can also accommodate 37-inch tyres also as the Military Hummers do. The Towing and Payload capacity of the truck is not yet revealed by the company. But the expected top-notch performance is guaranteed.
Driving range
The company boasts the truck's driving range is about 350+ miles per charge. The power source is an 800-volt electrical circuit that supports 350-kilowatts Quick-charge. It can also be charged in households too with the provided adapter but this will be way slower to get the truck fully charged.
The Exterior design
The Hummer Ev's exterior design elements are inspired by the previous Hummers, the H1, H2 and H3. Since it is an Electric vehicle, there are no front grilles but the corresponding space is used for the naming "Hummer". At the bottom of the front side, shackles are installed just below the Headlights. There is no engine beneath the hood but an empty space and it is used as a boot to store things. The roof is all removable manually into four different pieces and the company calls it, Infinity roof with Modular sky panels. After the removal, they can be packed safely inside the front boot. The truck is so wide so is the windshield that accommodates three wipers.
There are many cameras all over the truck giving the driver 18 different views. There are also cameras below the truck that enables the driver to see what's going on underneath the truck from inside. But the cameras underneath will often get covered by dust and end up giving us obstructive view, but GMC thought about this before us as they built sprayers to clean up the cameras with the fluid from the Windshield reservoir. How cool is that?
The downside of the truck is shielded with a heavy under body armour that protects the motors, the batteries, the suspension, the axles from being hit by the stones. The truck has shackles at the rear end to tow vehicles, trailers, etc... The Break lights are H-shaped LEDs which looks more futuristic and beautiful. The rear bed has a 6 position tailgate which also has two speaker compartments. The sides of the truck have Rock sliders and Skid plates that cover the power source from both sides.
The Interior design
There is no space is wasted inside. The interior of the truck has that premium and pristine feel to it but also has the Rugged nature that you don't hesitate to take the truck off-roading. It is based on the theme of a Lunar lander as they have drawn the topographical map of "Sea of Tranquility" on the speaker grilles which is a place on moon where the Lunar lander landed and space left by the absence of clutch pedal is stamped with the first-ever moon footprint made by "Neil Armstrong". The company had come up with their own texture as there is no leather used inside and it is "Animal-free". The customers have the option to select between different types of texture they want.
There are two large screens, one behind the steering wheel and one on the right is the Infotainment screen with a capacitive touchscreen. The centre screen is 12.3 inches that display speed, range, MPG, Charge, etc... and the Infotainment screen is 13.4 inches similar to that of a tablet that displays GPS, Tyre pressure, camera view and acts as the control centre where different driving modes are selected by the driver.
This truck has a 5 ft long bed that is as spacious as the previous GMC Sierra pickup truck had. The roof is panoramic glass surface extending from the windshield to the back and as we already said, it is manually removable into four different pieces that give the truck a convertible style.
Variants available
Hummer EV2 - starts at $79.995 and expected to be on sale by spring 2024. This is the base variant and will have the power of 625 hp, 7,400 lb/ft of torque and 250+ miles of range.
HUMMER EV2X - starts at $89,995 and expected to be on sale by spring 2023. This also has two motors with the same power and torque figures but with a slightly longer range of about 300+ miles.
HUMMER EV3X - starts at $99,995 and expected to be on sale by late 2022. This variant will have three motors that produce 800 hp and torque of 9,500 lb/ft whereas the range is the same as the Hummer EV2X.
HUMMER EV Edition 1 - starts at $112,595 and expected to be on sale by late 2021. This is the 1st edition of the Hummer EV and the top-end variant that will have the power of 1,000 hp, 11,500 lb/ft of torque produced by three motors. The total range will be 350+ miles.
