A truly track-focused Lamborghini Huracan STO revealed

Overview

The Italian carmaker Lamborghini has launched the Huracan Super Trofeo Omologato or STO, a truly track-focused version of the standard Huracan. This is a homologation model of the track-only Huracan Super Trofeo Evo race car.

This new Huracan is named as STO which expands as SUPER TROFEO OMOLOGATO. The Italian word, Omologato means Homologation as the STO is a Homologation special from the company.

The STO packs a Naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine producing 631 hp and 565 Nm of torque which is same as the Huracan Performante. After all, having the same engine and same power output as the previous model, but the new STO is faster and quicker because it is 100 Kg lighter than the Performante and weighs just about 1,339 Kg and the Throttle map is modified as the Redline or Max. rev limit is set in the vicinity of 8,500 Rpm.

In order to reduce the weight of the car, the All-wheel-drive (AWD) system is removed. Hence, the STO is Rear-wheel-drive (RWD) only car as that of the Super Trofeo Evo race car. The Chassis is made up of Hybrid Aluminium and Carbon-fibre which effectively reduces the weight and add more strength and rigidity to the car. Up to 75% of the body is carbon-fibre. Not only that, the Windshields are thinner and 20% lighter and the Wheels are made of Magnesium alloys.

The Braking power is already impressive in the Huracan Performante, it is even better and powerful in the STO with the Brembo's fade-resistant CCM-R Carbon ceramic brakes which is capable of stopping the car in just 30 metres from 60 Mph to 0.

The STO takes just 3.0 seconds to reach a speed of 62 Mph from 0 and 124 Mph in just 9.0 seconds. However, the STO is not as quick as the 2021 McLaren 765LT or the 720S. As this is a performance-oriented track day car it will be faster in the Green hell aka Nurburgring Nordschleife than the previous Huracan. But will this be enough to dethrone the new record holder, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black series. Well, it will be known once Lamborghini comes forward.

The Aerodynamic design is fully revised over the standard Huracan. The rear wing (spoiler) is one of the biggest changes on the outside to provide the downforce the car desperately needs at high speeds. The front end is entirely different from that of a standard Huracan which had a smooth surface but the STO's front is all a cluster of complex Air vents and a Splitter. These altogether increases the free air flow past the front side. The Front splitter and the Rear wing are manually adjustable up to three different levels. The rear fenders are also reshaped and house two NACA ducts.

The STO retains its Roof scoop from the Super Trofeo race car to cool down the engine. The car also has got a Stabilising fin that continues back of the roof scoop.

The company Lamborghini claims that the STO can lap the Daytona International Speed way in 1 minutes 48 seconds. This is 3 seconds faster than the Performante.

The inside of the STO is all Carbon-fibre including the floor, roof, door panels, dashboard, steering wheel and seats. The bare Carbon surfaces of the Dashboard, steering wheel, seats, centre console are all covered with rich alcantara.

The STO also gets three driving modes as every Lamborghini do, but those three modes are renamed as STO, Trofeo and Pioggia corresponding to normal roads, dry tracks and Wet tracks, respectively.

The STO runs on 20-inch Bridgestone Potenza Sport tyres. The top speed is claimed as 310 Kph (or) 193 Mph. The base price is set as $334,000 and it is expected to enter production by next spring.
