Updated: Oct 13, 2020

Overview

Finally, Maserati has come up with a supercar with a gullwing-style coupe that follows the "Maserati Corsa" line up after the Fastest Maserati MC12 launched back in 2004. With the new supercar, the company, however, matches the power figures of the MC12. The new MC20 is said to produce 621-hp with a V6 engine which is half the size of its predecessor's V12 engine.

  • Maserati's newest flagship, MC20, comes with a traditional V6 engine with no hybrid technology which is capable of doing a 0-60 Mph in just 2.9 seconds, almost 1 second faster than its predecessor.

  • Comes in three different variants, Convertible, Electric, Gas.

  • With a shocking price tag of under $200,000.

The predecessor MC12 launched in order to mark the company's return in the GT racing series and apparently, the Launch of MC20 is also a mark of return of the company in the supercar world. Being a successor to MC12, this car could have had a name like MC13. But, instead, the car is named as MC20 in which the"20" marks the "year" and the "MC" stands for "Maserati Corsa" (Maserati Racing).

The MC20 is packed with new features which no other Maserati has yet. One of the best features is the twin-turbocharged V6 engine.

DEVELOPMENT

Maserati started developing the MC20 only two years back. The engine for the MC12 owned by Ferrari, whereas, this time the engine is entirely built by Maserati itself with some of the bespoke F1 technology in the name of "Nettuno" (A 100% Maserati engine). The F1 technology includes Additional Combustion separately to increase power. The all-new engine boasts a whopping 621 hp which means the power-to-weight ratio of 2.34 Kg per Horsepower. The engine is accompanied by an 8-Speed Automatic Transmission.

In order to achieve weight as less as 1,500 Kg, Maserati has used Carbon-fibre extensively. The monocoque is purely made of Carbon-fibre which makes it one of the lightest out there.

There are four different drive modes- Wet, GT, Sport and Corsa and it seems the company took the Powersliders into consideration as they added a fifth mode that completely switches the Traction control off.

BODY DESIGN

MC20 has come with a beautiful looking gullwing doors but no rear spoiler that apparently looks like a dining table in many other recent modern supercars. The exterior design of the car is developed based on the Carbon-fibre monocoque designed by both Maserati and Dallara, an Italian chassis manufacturer, best known for their work in Formula 3 series, since 1993. The company stated that they spent more than 2,000 hours in the wind tunnel and it seems the time spent does worth it. At the front, there is the Trident badge representing the company. In order to enhance the Aerodynamics of the car, there are splitters at the front side, Diffusers at the rear, side skirts, an Air intake on both the sides on the surface of the Quarter panels are made of exposed carbon-fibre. The company offers six colours- Nero Enigma, Giallo genio, Grigio Mistero, Rosso Vincente, Bianco Audace and blu Infinito.
