BMW iX, an All-electric SUV with a range of 300+ miles.

Overview

The German Automaker, BMW has unveiled their all new electric vehicle, the iX, an SUV. Currently, the car markets are flooded with electric vehicles from so many Automakers like Mercedes-Benz with the EQC, General motors with the Hummer EV, Porsche with the Taycan, Audi with the RS e-Tron GT and so many and BMW joins the fleet with the iX. The company made it clear that they will introduce over 20 electric vehicles in just two years which is kind of insane. This car is basically the BMW Vision iNext concept from 2018 which now came into reality as the iX. Read on to know more about it.

The Performance

The company BMW are best known for the performance and it seems that they continue their job with the electric vehicles also as the new iX is said to offer 500 hp with just two electric motors, one at the front and one at the rear therefore, the car is driven by all four wheels. The BMW also claims that the iX is capable of reaching 0-60 Mph in just under 5.0 seconds which is a pretty impressive figure for an SUV.

The Exterior design

The design elements of the BMW iX is purely inspired by the BMW Vision iNext Concept car. The Headlights and the Bumper are almost similar between the two cars. There is no Kidney grilles here as there is no engine that demand air but instead, a Kidney like shaped "Intelligence panel" which is self healing. The rear design is also similar between the two cars and they are kept simple.

The Interior design

The design inside the car is so simplistic and has very minimum number of physical buttons. The iX offers five seats with flat floors and a large Panoramic sunroof. Hence, the leg room is better than any other current BMW cars. It has got a large Driver display and Touchscreen-Centre console which are 12.3 and 14.9-inch in size, respectively. Right below the Cenre console screen a long Air conditioning vents is present. The Centre display can also be controlled with a Rotary controller. The Dashboard and the Door panels are all covered with Leather. The seats are also made of leather to give that luxury feel and the comfort. The seats, Windows, Mirrors are electrically adjustable. The top variant of the iX comes with a concept car level feature, the Crystal buttons.

The Range

The most important aspect of an electric vehicle is it's range and the BMW said that the iX will offer 375+ miles of driving range on a single charge and this is more than the range of any current electric cars like the new Hummer EV and also including the Tesla Model X by 25 miles. The Battery pack of the iX is expected to be a 100 Kw/h battery pack. This battery pack comes with DC fast charging feature which may give enough power to provide 75 miles of range in just 10 minutes. The prestigious BMW logo of the car has the charging port right beneath it.

Pricing

Well, the pricing of the new BMW iX is expected to be well over $100,000 mark and will be on sale on November 2021.
