Aston Martin VULCAN: The Meanest Track weapon.

Aston Martin Vulcan is a Lightweight track-only car that was launched by the Luxury British Automobile Manufacturer in 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show and is priced at $2.3 million. The company declared that only 24 models will ever be produced which makes this car very much exclusive and rare. The Vulcan is not road-legal but if one is ready to spend a little bit more money, can get a perfectly road-legal version of the Vulcan and change it back to the track model which is done by the company itself to all of its customers.

The track version of the One-77?

Yes, sort of. The Aston Martin One-77, a sports car, which was also a limited production car of up to 77 as the name suggests. After the One-77 was launched, the company thought of making a more potent version of their flagship One-77. Apparently, as a result, Vulcan has started taking its shape. Although, you cannot spot any similarities between the two cars. The differences, all the way starts from the Engine itself, as the engine in the One-77 was a 7.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 and the engine in the Vulcan is a 7.0-litre naturally aspirated V12 which is 0.3-litres smaller than the One-77's engine. The Exterior and the Interior designs are radically different from the One-77. The bodywork is full of carbon-fibre whereas in the One-77 it was Aluminium.

Interior

The Interior of this car exhibits highly extensive use of Carbon-fibre. We know that the Aston Martin is a luxury carmaker and barely in the same way the Vulcan also features some minimal amount of Leather that adds a small taste of luxury to the car from inside. It is very stripped out and raw but there is immense focus on the safety measures. When we talk about safety, the first thing we might get a little flash in our heads is the Roll cages. The Roll cage is made from extremely strong AeroGrade Steel and is one of the lightest out there, as it just weighs 32 Kilograms in total. For added safety, Carbon-fibre monocoque chassis is used which is also lightweight. The Seats are GT style bucket seats, made by Recaro and are manually adjustable back and forth. Coming to the Steering wheel of the car which is detachable and it houses seven functional buttons, two scrollers and the Gear shift paddles. The Traction control and the ABS are totally adjustable using the scrollers on the steering wheel.

The door panels are also made of Carbon-fibre and help in weight saving. Luckily, there is Air conditioning available and are adjustable with a dowel up to two levels. Unlike any other race cars, we can select between three different levels of Engine power outputs with a scroller-500 hp (507 PS), 675 hp (684 PS), 820 hp (831 PS). There is a small array of Alumunium switches at the right side of the driver seat. In the middle of the two bucket seats, we can see a Headphones port for the driver while racing.

In between the seats, the Transmission is present which is specially made for the Vulcan using Lightweight Aluminium casing which made the transmission weigh as low as 70 Kg. There is no carpets or mats on the floor rather a bare Carbon surface. There is also a Fire extinguisher just below the co driver's seat.


The Vulcan makes use of a Carbon-fibre monocoque chassis built by Multimatic who built monocoque chassis for some of the bespoke cars like the Aston Martin One-77 and the Ford GT and that improve the strength of the car to a large extent.

Exterior

When you observe the exterior of the car, you can see the obsession for the Carbon-fibre. The whole body panels are made out of Carbon-fibre in order to save weight, hence, the car weighs about just 1350 Kg in total. There is a long Bonnet that covers the monstrous V12 underneath. The Front side of the car has the typical Aston Martin grille that protects the Radiators and provides more rigidity by the vertical plates behind the hexagonal grille mesh. It also has a Towing line protruding out of the grille. Above the grille, there is also a very beautiful headlamp for night time drivability on both sides and this helps the Conversion or the Homologation of the track going Vulcan to a completely road-legal car. The Innovative rear lights are of 27 different LED lamps in the shape that is closely like Semi-circular protrusions that are illuminated individually by dedicated LED bulbs.

On the long bonnet, we can see two huge carbon vents that suck the air to the engine. An engine that produces such a ridiculous amount of power will obviously produce a large amount of heat, therefore, in order to cool down such a hot engine, there are cooling vents on the sides that draw cold air and the same vents helps in Aerodynamics of the car. The Rearview mirrors are also made of Carbon which surprisingly is electrically adjustable by the driver inside. On the rear end at the downside, there is a connective valve for the Air Jack System required for those outrageously fast pit stops during the races. The Exhaust pipes placed on the sides of the car that is fire breathing all the way.

Aerodynamics

Just below the Bonnet, there is the radical Carbon Front Splitter. The sides of the Vulcan has Carbon fins behind the front wheels sucking the high-pressure air from the front wheels. In addition to the fins, there's a small resemblance to the F1 cars which is the Flat underbelly mainly used in the F1 cars. The underbelly is accompanied by a number of Venturi tunnels this helps in minimising the chance of Air destruction in the Rear diffusers.

Pretty much everything in this car is radical and that best suits both the Rear spoiler and Diffuser which are responsible for the immense amount of downforce. Astonishingly, the car generates more downforce than it weighs.

The diffusers could be one of the largest out there for a race car. It is divided into 7 paths by carbon flaps.

The Vulcan has a front mid-mounted engine on an Aluminium Alloy Chassis which is derived from their GT3 cars. The engine in the Vulcan is 0.3 L smaller than the Aston Martin One-77's engine and making this car one of the most powerful cars from the brand. The Transmission in the Vulcan is seamless in gear shifts, thanks to X-trac 6-speed sequential transmission that are widely used in touring cars. Similar to any of the racing cars, Vulcan also features Carbon Ceramic brakes by Brembo. The entire power produced by the engine is straight to the rear wheels.

Vulcan is capable of hitting 0-60 Mph in just 3 secs which is a pretty good time for a race car. The suspension is race-derived pushrod suspension with an anti-dive geometry supported by Multimatic's Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve (DSSV) adjustable dampers.



It can be Road-legal too!

Yeah, the company itself offers homologation of the track-only Vulcan to make it road-legal but with a huge amount of extra money and only one road-legal Vulcan know to exist as far as the internet source says and it was featured in a youtube channel Mr JWW. And whenever the owner wants the car to convert it back to the Track version, the company offers it too. Unlike many other track-only Hypercars such as Ferrari FXX, 599X, FXX-K and McLaren P1 GTR, the Vulcan can be bought and can be driven only on the private roads and tracks.
