Engine and Performance

The engine in this car is a turbocharged inline-six that produces 382 hp at 6,500 Rpm and 364 Nm of torque which makes the car quick enough. The company claims that the car reaches 0-60 Mph in 3.8 seconds which is quick, but not the quickest yet. The car comes with xDrive system as standard but unfortunately, we don't get to have RWD only option to drift around. The car is more stable and feels a bit more comfortable than the previous models in tight corners, thanks to the lowered and stiffened sport suspension with Adaptive dampers and Rear sports differential.

We get an 8-speed automatic gearbox from ZF and there is no manual transmission is no longer available for the new 4 series same as the 2021 BMW M3 and M4 Competition.

0-60 Mph 3.8 seconds
1/4 mile 12.3 seconds

The car handles great in tight corners and picks up so good. However, lacks a powerful engine and aggressive aerodynamics like 2021 M3 and M4.

The exterior design

This new M440i is wider than the previous 4 series and the M4 and the exterior design is similar to the new BMW M8 Gran Coupe. The front end is really aggressive, particularly the headlamps are really nice and bit controversial too because of those vertical kidney grilles. The frameless doors feel more of a luxury car than a performance coupe. The smoothened Quarter panels are really bulky looking rather being angular and muscular, the way it used to be in the old M4. The rear end is beautiful with the minimalistic boot lid spoiler and the taillights really standout. The rear boot has a capacity of 355L which is similar to Mercedes C63 Coupe, Audi A5, etc...

The air intakes at the front end are bigger more efficient than before. At the rear, Air vents are placed which obviously are non-functional. There is also a diffuser which is non-functional as well. The air intakes, the rear air vents, the Boot lid spoiler, the pseudo diffuser and the Bumper are available in carbon-fibre and it costs more money.

The interior design

The interior design is indeed similar to the old 3 series. The new "M" sport seats at the front are new and are electrically adjustable which are more comfy than before. The seats at the back is not as good as the front and are not adjustable. Therefore, the leg room and the head room is not enough at the back and are not suitable for taller peoples. The door panels, the centre console, the dashboard are sturdy and strong and that show the premium quality that BMW never missed out.

There are two screens, one behind the steering wheel and one at the side is the Infotainment screen which runs Android and allows gesture controls. Wireless charging is also available right below the Infotainment system. This car does not have M buttons to switch between AWD and RWD since there is no option other than AWD.

Pricing

The M440i xDrive coupe is the top-end variant and most expensive in the 4 series and it costs about $58,500 and it is all set to hit the markets by late October 2020.
